A wave, in motion.
Change one variable. See what follows. Explore the relationship between frequency, wavelength, and amplitude.
More cycles. A shorter wavelength.
The model holds wave speed fixed. As frequency increases, more cycles fit into the same distance, so wavelength decreases. Amplitude changes the height of the wave, independently of its frequency.
wave speed = frequency × wavelength
Seeing with sound.
Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves and their echoes to reveal structures inside the body. Frequency helps shape the trade-off between resolving small details and reaching deeper tissues. Real tissues also absorb, reflect, and scatter sound.
This uniform-medium model uses arbitrary distance units. Its controls are an illustration of wave relationships, not settings for a medical device.
