    Excerpts
    WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing a recall of about 30,000 furnaces sold in California. Seven firms are offering to repair or replace certain furnaces, which were sold under their own labels, but were manufactured by Consolidated Industries Inc.

    The units involved are gas-fired horizontal furnaces equipped with steel "NOx" rods installed above the burners and are commonly called NOx rod furnaces. These furnaces pose a substantial risk of fire.

    All the furnaces can be identified by the steel rods installed above the burners. The firms participating in this recall are Amana Company, L.P., of Amana, Iowa; Bard Manufacturing, of Bryan, Ohio; Carrier Corporation, of Syracuse, N.Y.; Goettl Air Conditioning Inc., of Phoenix, Ariz.; Goodman Manufacturing Company L.P., of Houston, Texas; Heat Controller Inc., of Jackson, Mich.; and The Trane Company, a division of American Standard Inc., of Tyler, T

American Standard HVAC Data Tag Age & Feature Decoder

American Standard HVAC equipment like the indoor air handler or outdoor compressor-condenser unit is identified by a product data tag or sticker that contains information about the unit.

The data tag will include two key identification fields: the product designation or identification code and the product's individual serial number.

American Standard Product Serial Number & equipment age

The product serial number, a unique character string including numbers that can be decoded to give the product's age and manufacturing details.

The date of manufacture is encoded in the serial number or is given in the upper right corner of the equipment data tag. You may see the letters MFR DATE followed by a number.

  • American Standard 8 Digit Serial Number Age Decoder: MYY-45678 where M is an encoded month and YY is a two-digit year. Example: J14-45678 decodes to September 2014.

    Months are encoded Alphabetically as follows:

  • A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, D=Apr, E=May, F=Jun, G=Jul, H=Aug, J=Sept, K=Oct, L=Nov, M=Dec.

    Like many manufacturers the company eschews using the letter I in these numbers, probably to avoid confusing the digit 1 with the letter I.

  • Amerian Standard 9 Digit All Numeric Serial Number Age Decoder: YYMM56789 where YYMM gives the year and month of manufacture.
  • American Standard 9 Digit Alphanumeric Serial Number Age Decoder: YYWWABCD5E where YYWW gives the two digit year and two digit week number of manufacture
  • American Standard 10 Digit Serial Number Age Decoder: YYWWDABCD5E where YYWWD gives the two digit year, two digit week & 1 digit day within week of manufacture
  • American Standard 10 Digit Hyphenated Serial Number Age Decoder: YYM-45678-90 where YYM gives two digit year and encoded 1 digit month.

    Months are encoded alphabetically as given earlier in this list, beginning A=Jan, etc.

Alternate American Standard / Trane Age Decoding formats:

  • YY01ABCDE where YY are the two digits of the year of manufacture; example 1401ABCDE = 2014
  • LYY12345 where L = manufacturing location and YY are the two digits of the year of manufacture; example L1403939 = 2014

@Joe p,

Yep; I looked for the Trane 2YCX3 series IO or Service Manual as well as the later American Standard version - with no success; all I find are websites selling "a manual" that on closer look isn't what we want.

I'll keep at it;

Meanwhile you could try giving

American Standard a call at 1-855-528-7814

Trane Customer Service a call at one or all of these numbers

@Joe p, serial number is. 6384SCX9H which means it’s a 2006 model. aS has been manufacturing for Trans since 2007 and hard to find info for untold before that I think. Thanks again. I want to be able to buy parts- like maybe a circuit board or blower motor.

@Jessica,

Some heaters actually included the year on the data tag;

If not, look for the serial number, not the model number.

I don't see anything recognizable in the numbers and letters you've given.

In that case we guess at the heater age by the surrounding data:

- age of building (sets a floor under age()
- dates written on the heater's service tag or on manuals that are on occasion stuck nearby
- other household records
- evidence of replacement or repairs (cuts in piping, different piping material) etc. and work order dates

Use the "Add Image" button to post a photo of your heater
and
another photo of its logo
and
another of its data tag

thank you. I tried that and could not locate anything even remotely similar. My guess is it's old , maybe 30 or 40 yrs old since can't find any record of it. thanks!

Hi anyone know how old this boiler is?
it's American Radiator & Standard Sanitary, NY, NY and says boiler: G24 DPGC and series: 2BR J3

On 2020-11-23 - by (mod) -

I have looked without success for a K-100 manual and am still looking Frederick,
noting that American Radiator-Standard Sanitary Corporation brand had its origin way back in 1875; but in 1929, American Radiator merged with Standard Sanitary, and the brand extends up through the present, owned by Trane.

I'm doubtful that the current crew can help you but you might try giving American Standard a call 855-815-0004 to see if they have a source for old equipmentmanuals

Typically the radiator temp will be lower than the HI limit set on your heating boiler's aquastat, so that'll be somewhere below 200F, often below 180F.

The actual radiator temp will vary significantly from those high limits depending on the heat loss rate of the building and of the hydronic heating system distribution piping as well as where the system is in its on-off cycle.

That means that the water temp will fall gradually in the system until it reaches the aquastat cut-in temperature, typically around 15-20 deg. below the HI setting.

Apologies, Troy - have I misunderstood: are we discussing electric heaters (this page) or electric water heaters? My answer was pertinent just to water heaters.

I'm looking for the wiring diagram for an American Standard Electric heater.

On 2020-10-04 - by (mod) -

Troy,

I can't find an American Standard water heater with simply model 19019B either.
Is it possible you've missed part of the model identification?

Current American Standard light duty electric water heaters use model IDs such as EN-30, 40, 46, 50
The wiring diagram is pretty simple - I'll update the page above to include an example - you may need to clear your browser cache to see the updated page.

Are we sure it's an American Standard water heater and not an American brand water heater?
For example pretty much all of the current American brand water heaters start with letters such as HPHE, EG, PDV,G VG etc.

Dave,

American Standard stopped making oil and gas furnaces in March 1968.

American Standard Boiler Serial Number Decoder:

In older serial numbers using a letter followed by two digits such as C73, the year is the two numeric digits.

In newer serial numbers such as 71B03311 I'm not sure but I'd guess the year is the first two digits (71)

You can contact American Standard to ask: telephone 800-241-4102.

Question: American Standard Heater Age? Sunbeam?

sunbeam/american standard model sl 85, any info as far as date and age? - Magic Mike 11/4/12

Reply:

Mike,

I was not sure if you meant Sunbeam water heaters or American Standard water heaters.

Information on Sunbeam water heaters is at http://www.sunbeam.com - or it would be if their website page links worked. The water heaters I found under that name were little portable devices not home water heaters.

This may help: Standard Water Heaters are is not a simple brand name I could find, except tracing to A.O. Smith. If it's an A.O. Smith product the serial number contains the date encoded as follows:

xxxYY-xM- x xxx

where YY is year and M is month beginning with A= January etc.
