I won’t sing today... honestly the fact that I am sitting here streaming right now is already taking a toll. Don’t just see the fact that I wrapped filming early- I still have other things to do. As long as I wrap early- that means that there is always OTHER work I have to do. After I wrapped today I went to record for an OST. In order to buy my Ferrari. I went to record the song and I am a little tired from it. When I finished up it was 7p, so I thought I’d come to stream a little and you can also watch a little.

After recording I came straight to stream.Comment: You don’t wash your hair?LYN: Of course I do (normally). I have to wash it, because the makeup is too thick. So every day I come home, make sure to wash all the makeup off, and then wash up. That includes my head. I was it everyday, because stuck in the wig all day my head will produce oils.
Comment: You’re looking a little haggard.LYN: Honestly speaking I’ve been a little tired lately. I’m a little out of sorts.... but it’s okay. It’s been three years since I’ve debuted and I’ve already experienced all kinds of work, so I can handle it. Don’t worry.
LYN: I just want to mention- the pandemic has seen a slight uptick in cases, so I want to advise everyone to keep protected and don’t run around if you can help it. Stay home if you can. Please stay alert and be careful. Don’t go to large gatherings if you can help it. If you’ve got to work like normal, please take care and wear your masks!Comment: Ning-ge, you take care, too!LYN: I am! Right now I’m in a drama crew so I go to hair/makeup and then straight to set, and from set straight home. At the most I’ll go out with the other actors for a meal or something.
Comment: Are you still going to Yantai?LYN: Yeah, most likely. We are filming the variety show as normal. Of course, you all already know which show that is. I was trying to keep it a secret, too. I already told you why I wanted to keep it secret- I’m afraid that if I let info slip that the work will go to ruin. But as long as I’ve recorded for it already! That means there’s an 80-90% chance it won’t fail, right?LYN: I’ll share with you- I’m not trying to complain about it, I’m strong, so I don’t need to- lately I’ve been tired because the drama is scheduled tight. I get into makeup at 5a and we film for a whole day, then I come home and go over the script for the next day. Every day is on a tight routine and I have to get up rather early. You all know already, I’m not an early riser. If I need to get up early, I’ll feel like the whole world owes me something. I even want to hit myself sometimes. I don’t like getting up early, but I have to do it for work. I keep comforting myself- because when I was younger I sang in the bar, right? Usually that work was at night, and then I’d go home to eat something, and then go to sleep in the early morning. I got used to staying up at night and even when I started streaming- I slept until the afternoon and got up to work at night. At the time I was someone who was very capable of sleeping. I could sleep for ten+ hours. Thinking about it now, I was sleeping my life away. But now! There’s no sleep to be had. I think that anything you do in life has to be repaid later. So now I comfort myself by thinking that since I slept too much when I was younger, it’s time to pay it back.LYN: Then I was filming for a variety show for some time earlier. Actually, the most relaxing thing is to shoot a drama. It has more of a schedule, and you don’t need to think too much. Variety shows are very tiring- don’t think it’s all fun and games- it’s tiring. Variety shows take more out of you than dramas or anything else. Let’s not talk about any one in particular, but normal varieties take at least 12 hours to record. The variety we went to shoot this time starts at a base of 14 hours. Also- we’re not just idling these 14 hours away. You have to keep yourself lively and also talk nonstop. It’s a test of your brain power. I’ve never filmed this type of variety show before... this is my first time for this type. The ones I’ve been in before have either been singing-related or cooking-related; or something I was only there for one episode. This variety show... really“fries your brain.” You come out of there thinking you’re an idiot. I used to think I was a pretty smart person. But after this show I think I’m an idiot.LYN: But I think this show was the happiest I’ve been. Because it doesn’t feel like work, it feels like playing. You know? With all the other shows I know I went there to work- I know that I’m there for a reason, whether that’s singing three songs or successfully doing my part. But this one- you’re there but you don’t know what for. Everything is a question- you don’t know who you’re going to meet, what you’re going to do, or what the situation will be like. I can only say who the other guest participants are. It’s just really fun. You don’t have to prepare anything because there’s nothing you CAN prepare. If you compare to the shows I’ve been in in the past, I would have to practice the songs or discuss about the arrangement... but for this show I don’t have to do anything! I just need to wear pretty clothes and go. The only requirements I have for this show is to dress nicely and to bring my head. That’s enough.The happiest thing in life is to.. is to play and also make enough to survive. :pLYN: I won’t reveal any of the plot or contents, and you’ll find out when it airs, anyway. You already know which program it is, don’t you? It’s a secret, I can’t spoil it. There are still two months until this show airs- I can’t tell you anything because I want you to get a big surprise when you watch it for the first time.
Comment: Did you make any new friends?LYN: Of course! How else can I answer that? What can I say- I went, but I still didn’t make any new friends. XD That’s not good at all. I did make friends! You might think that the world of relationships between artists is complicated, but it’s really not. We’re all in the same industry and when you meet, you don’t even need to say much to each other to become fast friends.LYN: You remember that time... that time Bai Lu was at the airport? People were taking photos of her but caught me in there, too? She’s a great actress and she has paparazzi and they were taking pictures, but caught me. I told you about it in a stream, once. I needed to clarify that I am not a stalker-fan. We really don’t know each other. But this circle is very small. There was a meal with the drama crew and Bai Lu was there, and I said,“Hi. I’m your fan.” Of course I didn’t. She came to me and told me that she saw (a clip of) my video, and knew we were on the same plane, so we chatted. When I got on the plane I knew there must have been a female artist behind me, because the reporters were different than usual, but I didn’t know who. She also figured that I must be some artist as well. In any case, we came to know each other from a completely different event. This circle is just small like that. Eventually, you’ll know everyone.LYN: I’m also quite familiar with the people I filmed the variety show with. Zhou Shen- I always see him when we record for shows. We also did Our Song together. He’s someone I can chat with in private, about some simple things. The next person is Guo Qilin- I knew him through DZW. We had a meal together at DZW’s house, so technically I know him. Sometimes we chat, but it’s harder for us to meet (in person). But considering this is the first time I’ve been in a show with him, we get along really well and he’s also quite witty. There’s Song Zuer- I haven’t had many interactions with her, but the thing is I’ve sung OSTs for her dramas (Pride and Price). In this circle, how many actors are there that can escape me? You can think about it. So, on some level we’ve all worked together before. Bai Yu-laoshi- actually I did not know him before, and I don’t quite remember his dramas- it’s not like I looked it up. But he’s a really nice person and conversing with him is very comfortable. It was fun to record with him. Zhou Keyu is also a really nice kid, because he IS younger than I am. He’s also quite tall. But I think I had a lot of fun. Oh, right- Bai Yu. Vacation of Love.It is true- as an actor, how many can escape my OSTs? So we’ve all worked together before.LYN: But, this program is very tiring. It was a lot of fun, but it was also tiring. Because your head has to keep turning (thinking) and once you start, you have to keep going for 14 hours. It’s not like you can just be in frame but not SAY anything; how will the director manage to get your cuts in? So it doesn’t matter WHAT you say and if you get cut out, you’ve just got to say something. You know I talk alot- I can do a five hour stream but I can’t do it for 14 hours! As we were filming for this show, by the end of it I almost lost my voice!! When this program airs I think you all can go give it a watch. It’s called... What’s it called again?? I’m kidding- of course I know. I’m just waiting for you all to type it out. You can give it a watch. I think... they spent quite a lot of money for this program.Comment: I’ll open a VIP account for this program.LYN: Alright! But telling me is no use, go to the program’s weibo and tell them. Opening a VIP account won’t make me any money- it’d be nice if I could make a few cents through it, though. LYN: I saw something the other day- about how I mention YCY too much in my streams, and if we’re together then just make it official already. XD When YCY streams sometimes she’ll mention me as well. But now that these rumors are flying around we’re starting to avoid each other. I don’t want to give her trouble and I suppose she doesn’t want to give me trouble either. What can we do? I guess we’ll both just have to talk about ZSX. We’ll stop talking about each other and just start talking about ZSX.LYN: This circle is just like this. Sometimes we’re friends and have a good relationship in private, but because of fans or some other media spewing nonsense, the relationship becomes strained. In order to not cause trouble for the other, they slowly drift apart. Eventually people go from friends to just acquaintances. I don’t think it needs to be so complicated.LYN: You’ve just been too accustomed to this- people can’t mention others without being suspected of either riding on their coat-tails or somehow liking (romantically) them. It’s not that complicated! We’re all friends here, and we all know each other. Just because names are never mentioned, doesn’t mean that two people don’t know each other. It’s just that /I/ mention someone and you find it very strange for some reason. I don’t think that’s necessary- we’re just friends. Also, in terms of streaming, all of the things that happen between me and my friends become a topic of conversation for me during my streams. What else am I supposed to talk about? How rockets were created? How the atomic bomb was made? I don’t know, soI can only share my life, my work, and my friends. I talked about work- the variety show; I talked about my life- I’m filming every day; now I only have my friends left. What else can I say? If I try to teach you about the meaning of life or give you an online class, it’s not like you’ll absorb anything. The ACTUAL teachers know better than I do, anyway. So I can only share my life with you. I don’t know about other people’s fans but I hope that mine can be more mature. Don’t get wound up just because you see me hanging with others. Comment: Which OST did you sing today?LYN: I wont tell you yet. The contract isn’t finished yet. I DID finish the song, but the contract hasn’t been finished yet. In this case sometimes you will sing the song for literally nothing. When it’s completed, then I’ll share with you.Comment: Don’t you sign a contract first and then record?LYN: It’s rarely like that, actually. In this industry- well, not the industry, but I believe there is a mutual trust between individuals. Do you think there is ever the situation where a company will ask me for an OST and I just go and do it for them, but they don’t give me a contract? Do you think this ever happens? Probably not. I haven’t had such an experience yet, in any case. Well, I did the once but that was under special circ*mstances. I recorded the song, and then later wasn’t able to sign the contract. :| But usually we record first and then finish up with the contract later, because the (legal) process is more complicated.

LYN: But I did finish recording it. The song is quite nice. I still have a lot of friends in this circle- because a lot of them refer songs to me. Something really funny that happened- oops, I’m going to mention YCY again- but anyway I have to thank her for it. A drama came to find me to sing an OST for them- my staff member told me about it and when I asked them what drama it was for they said it was for Chong Zi. Hey! YCY-meimei’s drama, of course I’ll do it. And then I even messaged her about it, saying,“How about it? Your Ning-ge is singing an OST for you, aren’t I great? Don’t worry, just leave it to me. I won’t make you lose face.” Then after a night my staff came back to me and said they got it wrong. It wasn’t an OST for Chong Zi. Ehm... I’ve just“slapped myself in the face” but I already told YCY about it! So I messaged her hurriedly,“Excuse me, I’m sorry. I got it wrong.” But she was really understanding about it and sent me back a short text:“I understand.” I was like,“What did you understand???” I didn’t mean it that way! I wasn’t purposely fooling her to try to get her to tell her drama crew to USE me for an OST. I really didn’t mean it that way, I was only trying to apologize. But she said,“I got it. Leave it to me.” I told her it was okay, that she didn’t need to, but t’s not like I could start a fight with her! I told her that I would never stoop so low for work- if you want me, you can have me; but if you don’t want me it’s your loss. I told her she REALLY didn’t need to, but she said it was ok, and she would just mention it because we’re friends, and if it works out then great and if it didn’t then there was no loss. So I let her ask, but told her explicitly not to say anything more- because I purely believe that all collaborations should be a happy thing and both sides should be willing. I would never BEG someone for work. Then, after three days, the Chong Zi group came to me with an OST. I accepted, of course. And I immediately sent YCY a message of thanks.|LYN: I was really afraid she would truly believe that I was using her to get myself work. I know I joked around with her and ZSX, and asked them to recommend me anything they thought would suit me; but I really do never make people pity me into giving me work. I guess this counts as a first time. It really wasn’t on purpose though!

Because I have no dictionary. There are always proverbs, OR they jump straight into poems. Two people could be having a conversation, looking into the distance, and then all of a sudden- /recites the first lines of a poem, then goes back to regular conversation XD/. So while I’m filming I can always learn some new proverbs or poems.Comment: So filming a drama improves your knowledge of literature.LYN: Oh yeah, most of the time there are even characters I don’t know how to read. Comment: When can we watch ALZ?LYN: I don’t know. I don’t have any other information. Every time I stream it’s always this question. As if I don’t have any other works. ㅂㅅㅂ You’ll know when it airs.Comment: Zichuan?LYN: Zichuan I really don’t know. I think it’ll take a while longer, maybe 1.5 years. There are a lot of special effects they have to add in. Voice acting hasn’t been done yet either. It’s early. You don’t need to think about Zichuan yet- it’s still got a long way to go.LYN: It’s alright though because I am still currently filming and will continue to film dramas. It’s not considered a lot, since I am still just playing supporting characters. They usually don’t have a lot of scenes, maybe 190-200. People may not know- lead actors usually have 400-500 scenes, and supporting actors have around 100-200.Comment: How much do you have left?LYN: I still have 100+. I think I’ll be shooting for this drama until May. It’s no rush.. we’ll take it slow.Comment: Grab a lead role.LYN: I’m very clear on my plans for this. If one day I do get a lead role, I will still accept“smaller” roles if the character is to my liking. I’m not going to grab a lead role and then no longer accept 2nd leads, and think 3rd leads are not worthy of my time. I don’t think it’s necessary. But if I do accept a lead role and later you see me in a third or fourth lead then please don’t find it out of the ordinary. I’m an actor, and I’ll choose the roles I like. So far they haven’t been lacking, right? :)

I was just making a joke, oh my goodness. How terrifying. I think I said something wrong just now? It’s ok- it was a joke. I wasn’t talking about that- (the drama he has a lead role for). I was talking about a short film I used my phone to film. A story about me and my dog. I wasn’t talking about any other drama.LYN: I’ll tell you about it when I can- I can’t say anything yet. Not that there IS anything to say... I think it’s great that I’m able to act in the first place. Acting really makes me happy.
Comment: I want to be a side/bg character.LYN: It’s actually hard work. Don’t think it’s so easy- you have to stay there all day. Like the main actors can at least take a break, but background characters.. I don’t know how to say it but they work very hard. If you don’t WANT to be an actor, I don’t think being a side/background character is something you’d want to come experience. It’s really very hard work. Not everyone has the chance to be one, anyway.Comment: If I were to become a background character, can I meet you?LYN: Do you think this is a tour group? You think you can just sign up to see OOO and they’ll send you into that group to watch them act? There’s such a nice thing? You’re thinking a little too optimistically.Comment: I’ll act as the main character’s servant.LYN: Don’t make me laugh. Anyone who plays the main character’s maid is going to be an actor with credit to their name. That’s not a side character, that’s a special appearance. Or it’s a legit role- if the character is important enough. You need to audition for those! Plus you need to use your connections! You think acting as a servant is so simple? It’s not.LYN: Background characters are those people walking along the streets and the vendors and carts. They’re there to fill in the atmosphere. People with certain roles or lines are usually special appearances.Comment: If I act as a bun seller, can I eat buns?LYN: You- are you just here for food?? You think it’s really a basket full of buns?? At the most there’s the steamer, and inside they’ll stick a piece of“smoke brick” so that there’s“steam”. There are no real buns there for you to eat. If you open the cap it’s probably full of trash in there.LYN: Some dramas are really nice though. I remember one scene (Heroes (?)) was filmed in a dried fruits/candies shop. /struggles with the pronunciation/ Our crew filled that shop up with real, edible goods. It was the first time I’ve ever seen a drama crew do that. A lot of supporting actors and even the main cast was looking around in wonder. It was just freshly filled- we snacked furiously. But normally speaking the supporting actors wont dare to take any- they’re not allowed. But even the makeup and lighting laoshi-s were there with wide eyes. It’s not that they were lacking that piece of food- it’s just that when you’re working, even an instant noodle will make you happy. But if you eat instant noodles at home, you’re not as happy. So the laoshi-s were there, seeing all those candied goods- but they wont eat it, because it’s unprofessional. But I had it better, because as a main actor no one could say anything if I went to take some. They wouldn’t have the heart to yell at me about it. :) So I grabbed a huge handful and gave it to the makeup and lighting crew. It was just going to go to waste after the scene was over, anyway. I still know how to be a good person by giving away other people’s stuff, after all. XD
LYN: When we’re acting, sometimes you’ll see a table full of food. They used to use fake food, but nowadays it’s pretty much all real. I’ve never been in a crew that used fake model food, in any case- it’s all been real. I’ve never eaten it. Is it edible? Yes. The morning we find out what scenes are to be filmed, the props dept goes to a restaurant and orders the food that we’ll need and plates it accordingly. The food all looks very pretty but you pretty much can’t eat them. You’ll find that actors very rarely eat anything at the table. If they had to make a choice- if there were six dishes at the table- they’d go for the peanuts. Peanuts are just dumped fresh from a bag. It’s alright to just keep eating the peanuts.Comment: Alcohol.LYN: The wine we drink in dramas isn’t real wine. You think they’re really gonna give you the good stuff- no, it’s water. After you drink you you still have to act out the sting of it. It’s all water- who’s going to give you actual alcohol??Comment: After you drink it you don’t have to shoot anymore (bc you’ll be drunk).LYN: Not really. I filmed a scene once- it was a very emotional scene- I was under a lot of pressure. It was not for ALZ, it was for Heroes. But that day I was a little tired- it was a long day- and I thought that if I drank a little I could muster up some emotion. Right? I’m sure some people watching feel the same way- after they have a drink or two they’ll feel emotional and it’s easy for them to start crying or share their burdens. I needed a little emotion that day so I told my staff to buy two bottles of beer- I drank one and I didn’t feel anything! I didn’t feel anything emotionally, I just felt a little dizzy. So I had a little more. Half a bottle, and then I was called to the scene. After I got there, that’s when I needed the emotions- I didn’t have any. I don’t know what happened, I was numb. I was thinking that after a drink I would be able to tap quickly into my emotions but my senses were numb. I couldn’t do the scene so I asked the director if we could do it on another day.LYN: So, drinking to stir emotions doesn’t work for me. But it does for other actors! I’ve met some who have a thermos and once they take a drink- it’s straight whiskey. They drink and act at the same time- I’ve met actors like that. They’re amazing. Drinking doesn’t work for me, so I guess my requirement is just getting enough sleep.

QJJ’s A Discovery of Romance, too. He wanted me to go cameo, so I did. He wanted to give me a 500RMB red envelope, and I didn’t accept that either. But then later they gave me an OST.Comment: They offered you 500, which you didn’t accept, and then 600 for an ost.LYN: If that were the case then why didn’t I just accept the 500 to begin with??? Then that means that my music is only worth 100. If the drama is split into the A crew and B Crew, you have to treat one and then remember to treat the other. So in total that’s 300-350 cups of milk tea. That’s only treating them once- which you’re not going to do. But only the once is already around 5000RMB. That’s how much I get for a cameo in a drama. XD It’s not cheap, but you have to do it. So the 100RMB really isn’t enough to treat everyone.Comment: What about a coffee/tea/cake truck?LYN: Those are usually things that fans prepare for their idols. Even our director has said- someone on weibo commented they are anticipating this“wuxia drama”- our director, Li Muge himself, replied saying this drama is not a wuxia, it’s a story about the jianghu.- names a bunch of old-style wuxia dramas and explains how the filming style is so different nowadays than it was before, that when you think about how a wuxia drama should look, what you imagine is different from what you see- and that disappoints people. it’s a generational differenceLYN: You just need to remember that“jianghu” isn’t fighting and killing, it’s about relationships between people.Comment: Just as long as the fight scenes don’t fall flat.LYN: People always talk about the fight scenes, but as someone who works in this business- in my personal opinion, I think fight scenes.... I think when you watch dramas the fight scenes are not the most important part. If people think the fight scenes are so important than they should be watching Ip Man! But I’m sure you didn’t buy the tickets to watch that in theater, right?Comment: I did.LYN: Than that means you’re a REAL kung-fu enthusiast! I don’t believe you! Make a post showing me your ticket stubs. :PLYN: But you know why action movies aren’t doing as well as they used to? There are two reasons. The first- it’s complicated to film. One good fight scene- in CGX the scene between the Ashile tribes- that took 10 days. When you watch it on tv it might be 30 seconds, but it took 10 DAYS to shoot. You know? Fight scenes take a lot of time, and because of this it costs a lot of money. Is it worth it? The other thing is- when a fight scene in a tv show comes out, the viewer rating dips, or viewers will just skip it entirely. I don’t know if you do that, just skip back to when there’s dialogue again? Actors always sign a contract before they start shooting. There’s an agreement for 100 days- one fight scene costs 10 days. If there are 6 fight scenes in this drama- you’ve already lost 60 days. There’s only 40 days to shoot 100+ more scenes. There’s no way. I’m not trying to imply anything, I just want to share with you the reason why maybe fight scenes are not as detailed or thrilling as before.

Even if a drama runs over the negotiated time, it’s not like you can stand there and tell them to pay you the equivalent overtime. If it runs over, let it run. I’m really curious how you found out- do I have ANY secrets left? I knew I would wrap early, so I decided to go record a song, because I owe SO MANY OSTs. Comment: Will Heroes air early?LYN: No, only late. There are really too many guzhuang dramas airing this year. There’s going to be a war, remember?
Comment: Did you read to source material for ALZ?LYN: I haven’t how could I read the whole thing? Let me share with you what I do- I really don’t have enough time to look at the source. I look at the script and the character, but what can I do to understand it? It’s not looking at the source material- that’a waste of time and I may not understand it. It’s not looking at the ending of the novel either- that’s futile. The thing you have to do- is go look at what fans of the novel have to say about it. It saves you a lot of time. First you look at what they have to say about the novel, then you look at their opinion of the character. Every person has a different understanding, but from them you can gain a broader understanding. Using their opinions to get to know and express some key points to the character is the best way to go.LYN: First I’ll look it up on Baidu, then look at reviews, then I’ll go back to the script and think about how I can act out the scenes and bring it to life. If you want me to look only at the source material, then I will formulate my own biased opinion. You can’t look at things from only one side. My experience in the new variety show taught me this important methodology.LYN: The variety show taught me this: If you think someone is the murderer, you can’t start off firmly believing they are, and making all the clues point to them. That’s wrong. If all the clues point to one person, you have to think in the reverse. You can’t look for clues with one person as the focus. It’s so hard.Comment: Spoilers.LYN: What did I spoil? What did you glean from that, tell me.LYN: But this is how I gain an understanding of characters. I don’t have the time to read the source material- look at Zi Chuan. That’s already a few VOLUMES. Also, there are always changes made when adapting a novel into a drama. It can’t be adapted 100%. I saw a comment the other day that read,“I wont watch Heroes if it’s too different from the novel.” Whether you watch it or not is your own business, but I’m telling you now- a drama cannot be 100% like the novel. There are just some things that can’t be adapted.- tells a funny anecdote about how he had to act an emotion (”you like this person A LOT”), but was not able to make any action or facial expression; the answer is that you’ve got to use your eyes ONLY.Comment: Aren’t you talking about Hao Du?LYN: Hao Du had expressions! Not many, but they are very small. What I’m talking about her eis being absolutely expressionless. It’s not the same, and can’t be acted out. So things have to be adapted for screen.Comment: Too much exposure.LYN: Yeah! I already said- the Bai Choufei character is too exposed. It wasn’t just a matter of flashing some abs, he didn’t wear pants either, in the novel. There’s no way we could have kept that aspect in when adapting for the drama.
Comment: Why are you always wearing a cap?LYN: You see me wearing a cap a lot in my streams, is that it? I’m balding. There’s no hair up top, only at the sides. That’s why I wear a cap. If I were to wash my hair and blow dry it, it’d be too late. I reserved the time I would have spent washing my hair to stream with you a little longer. Isn’t that great?
Comment: If I go to Hengdian will I bump into you?LYN: Do I have nothing better to do than to wander the streets around Hengdian? You think you can just meet me on the streets?? I don’t think you’d be able to. Also, in this situation (pandemic) please just... stay at home. Don’t wander. Give it a rest for a couple of days.Comment: Is the housing price expensive in Hengdian?LYN: We’ve surpassed the idol-fan relationship and have upgraded to discussing housing prices now?? I think it’s ok- but it depends on your point of view. Hengdian technically counts as a city and housing costs are 10k+. Do you consider that expensive? I don’t know.Comment: it’s pretty expensive...LYN: It’s all because of the celebrities, isn’t it? They’re moving here and making the housing costs go up. [..] It’s not a joke, before- when I was looking into getting/renting a house here, I had an actor friend who was living here and was going to move away. They asked me if I wanted to move into their old place, and I thought it was ok. But the rent, the RENT, which was usually around 6-7k turned in 17k. Because a celebrity used to live there. I’m sure if there weren’t so many people (celebrities) around here to shoot dramas, the cost wouldn’t be as high. 80% of all guzhuang dramas are shot here.

It’s so familiar to me, I can tell the location with just a glance.LYN: But the good thing about Hengdian is that they’re not just at a standstill- they’re always making new sets. These sets are in high demand because all the old ones have been used too many times already. Every time I come here there’s always something new to see.Comment: So all the dramas we watch take place in the same place.LYN: Yeah. No matter what“zhuan” you’re watching- an le zhuan (Legend of Anle), jia nan zhuan (Rebirth for You)- no matter which way you“zhuan” (转 = turn), you can’t escape Hengdian.
Comment: Is you going to be circling around Hengdian for your next drama, too?LYN: I.. can’t escape. I’ve already settled down here. Sometimes people will ask me where I live and I’ll say“Hengdian.” But they’re asking about when I’m NOT shooting a drama, and I totally forget that I actually rent a house in Beijing. Artists live in one of three places: Beijing, Shanghai, or Sanya. This is where most of them live.LYN: Sometimes when I have a break or a few days off I don’t even want to go back to Beijing. I just stay in Hengdian. It’s very comfortable here. Honestly, my house in Beijing- in one year I don’t even live there for a month.Comment: Sell it then.LYN: Ah... Actually I was thinking about selling it, because the rent for one year is actually not a small sum. But right when I was thinking I wanted to sell it, I found out one of the actors in my crew also lives in my neighborhood. They told me that my house had good feng shui. We started chatting about feng shui, folks. I thought about it... and it’s true! Ever since I’ve lived in that house, starting in 2018 when I debuted, my career has been so smooth! Don’t you think so? I had a sudden realization- they were right! That’s it then. I needed to keep the house.Comment: Buy it.LYN: I can’t afford to BUY it.Comment: Get a loan.LYN: I don’t know about you- but I grew up really poor. I lived with my grandparents and really lacked a sense of security. I lacked security in life and towards all things. So if I ever got a loan, the insecurity and pressure it would give me would crush me. It doesn’t matter how small the loan is. My tabs- I pay off early. I never wait for the day the bank notifies me- I see the credit there and I pay it off immediately. I must never owe them. If I don’t pay them back I don’t feel comfortable. Comment: When you’re voice acting for Bai Choufei, what percentage do you think it matches?LYN: How much does my voice match with the character’s? 100%. Because I’m the one who acted him, no one else. He came out of me so the match is 100%. If you’re asking about how well I played the character compared to what fans of the novel are expecting, then that’s another story. We’ll have to find out later. Very rarely will you see a supporting actor ask the leads out for a meal. You know? So the Long Ballad crew- pretty much there were no crew meals there. The one exception is when I went out with Wu Lei once. The next time I worked with her is ALZ. For that drama I only went out with Gong Jun once. Another thing is.. /he can’t say, because he doesn’t want to be too transparent with the industry.../LYN: This gossip is too smart. They said I liked her, and if I deny that fact in my stream then that doesn’t seem right either. I can’t say,“I don’t LIKE her! Who likes her?? /scoff/.” So it’s just... very hard.LYN: We have normal interactions and I can say here that I have never asked her out and there’s no way I can. When we’re shooting a drama it’s not like what you guys think, and at the end of the day we all get together to eat. There’s no time for that- we’re all busy and working, there’s no time to always get together and have fun and have a meal. We always have to FIND the time- it’s hard enough for two people’s schedules to match up for a quick meal together.LYN: I think we only went out to eat the once (he and Gong Jun)... and Fang Yilun was there too. I called him the other day just to chat and found out he was in Hengdian shooting for a drama. I asked him who the male lead was and he said,“Me.” I said, “That’s great, you’re totally worth it.” and he replied,“It’s no big deal. This is my trouble.LYN: Back to the topic of the gossip blog though- Let me be clear. I think she’s a really great actress and when I work with her everything always goes very smoothly. She’s always very professional and open to ideas. Actors- let me tell you- there are ones you get along with and ones you don’t. Sometimes and actor will have a lot of thoughts in how they want to execute a scene, but if you want to actualize those ideas you need the other actor to accommodate you. Acting is 1+1, and you have to work together. If you have ideas of your own but your partner doesn’t help you then no one is getting anywhere. But if I have any ideas on set and ask her to help me with them, she’ll hear me out and think about whether it can work or not and accommodate. But there are some actors you try to negotiate with and it doesn’t work at all. So, it’s very pleasant to work with her.LYN: Honestly after we finished shooting for ALZ we weren’t familiar and I still didn’t have her contact info. I only got it when we went to shoot Happy Camp, but that doesn’t mean I could just MESSAGE her. Then for ALZ, we had a lot more scenes together, because the only person around my character is her; so we were able to get more familiar with each other. But it still doesn’t warrant me asking her out to dinner.
Comment: Did your heart flutter when you shot scenes with her?LYN: >.< I shoot 3-4 dramas a year... it’s already been a couple years since The Long Ballad, how much would my heart had to have fluttered, for me to still think of her? I’m not a child who’s never faced the world. We’re all friends, and this circle is only so big. How could I-??LYN: I can’t keep talking about this. You’re digging me into a hole. Some people talk about getting too deep into the acting. I really don’t have that experience. Because always have a next role to bring to life. I can’t become stuck in one character. I still have to work! Acting is just acting. Also, when you’re standing there, there’s a boom mic like right here (above the head). You think immersing yourself in a scene is so easy?? In real life- sometime you- I don’t dare to say this because no one else does and I feel like if I do address it I’d be a fool. If you like to ship, just ship the characters in the drama.
